Letting Go: Kirsten’s Pyjamas, Phone and Sports Watch

Year of Work: 2026

Mixed media installation

Dimensions: 125×60×100cm

This installation stages a quiet but unsettling dining scene. Donated objects—a teenage t-shirt once worn as pyjamas, a necktie, a running medal, a plastic sports watch, a golf ball and a mobile phone—are arranged as a ready-made meal on disposable plastic plates and cutlery.

The phone and watch display images of meat, pointing to the heavy environmental impact of industrial food production. The stretch film covering the plate evokes pre-packaged convenience meals and the artificial systems that shape contemporary consumption. The slogan “Have a Great Day” printed on the t-shirt becomes an ironic wish, addressed to whoever might sit at the “reserved” table.

White plastic belt buckles on the plate connect physically to the neighbouring sculpture, suggesting that what we produce, discard, inhale, extract and consume circulates within one interconnected ecological system. The work proposes that no object truly disappears; it transforms, accumulates and returns.
